Supreme
Idler Technology
Melco Conveyor Equipment and Africa Roller, global players
in the design and manufacture of conveyor idlers, have recently
enhanced their product range to maintain their international
lead in the field of Polyroll technology. The company’s development
team has produced an entirely upgraded Polyroll range, known
as the SUPREME.
Africa
Roller invented and patented the first Polyroll in the early
80s, and has since then supplied many hundreds of thousands
of these rollers into various applications throughout the
world.
The
improvements to the original roll include an increase in the
wall thickness of the HDPE sleeve from 6mm to 12mm to extend
the life of the roll. The HDPE sleeve is fitted to the steel
tube, in a way that effectively locks it in position, adding
to the structural strength of the roller. The distance between
the bearings and the roll support brackets is shorter, decreasing
the shaft deflection induced by equivalent load. A glass fibre
reinforced polymer material has increased the strength and
stability of the bearing housing and the machined surface
finish of the roll provide a low total indicated run-out,
minimising vibration and noise levels.
An
innovative ‘stone guard’ with integral labyrinth seal prevents
the roll from being jammed by spillage of small material.
The larger diameter of the outer blade of this stone guard
labyrinth is effective because of the higher velocity at this
point. The smaller internal diameter minimises ingress of
contaminants.
The
well proven Melco multi-part labyrinth seal as fitted to many
millions of rollers operating in over 55 countries, has been
utilised to ensure effective sealing while still maintaining
a remarkably low running resistance.
In
addition to all its benefits, the SUPREME Polyroll is available
at no additional cost. Clients are receiving a product that
has increased in value significantly, at a very competitive
price. The product is SANS certified and complies with all
requirements including breakaway mass, running resistance
and water ingress.
