About Melco

Melco was founded in 1970 with the aim of supplying competitively priced, high quality equipment to the South African mining industry. Today Melco is one of the world’s major conveyor equipment manufacturers, and the largest supplier of idlers/rollers in South Africa and Africa. Melco has been a proud member of the Rulmeca group of companies, the largest supplier of rollers in the world, since 2006.

Our main scope of work includes the design, manufacture and supply of high quality, competitively priced conveyor idlers/rollers, motorized pulleys, and supporting structure for the bulk materials handling industry. We employ more than 400 people, and operate a modern manufacturing plant in Germiston, South Africa. As an ISO 9001:2008 listed Company; our state-of-the-art facilities enable us to offer conveyor equipment suitable for surface, plant and underground applications – meeting the requirements of all international standards.

Melco idlers have been successfully utilised in every application in over 75 countries throughout the world, and installed on belt widths from 200mm to 3000mm. Our product range is the most comprehensive in the world, ranging from 89mm to 215mm in diameter with bearing and shaft arrangements from 25mm to 60mm diameter. Roller types include conventional steel, standard and heavy duty HDPE polyrolls, and a wide variety of standard impact and rubber disc return rollers. Our roller manufacturing plant is capable of production in excess of 4,000 rollers per day, and conveyor structure and bases in excess of 20 km per month.
